I figured I would start by sharing the rig that the wife and I use for our travels, a 2015 Grand Design Reflection 303RLS. While we are not new to the RV'ing world, a couple of years ago we decided we needed to upgrade one more time and find the perfect camper for us. The only thing we both agreed on and was set in stone before we went to the RV show was that we wanted a fifth-wheel.
Having previously owned a travel trailer as well as a Class C motorhome, I knew what the pro's & con's of each were. Personally, I like the way a fifth-wheel handles on the road compared to a travel trailer. Someone once told me that if you are looking for anything over 30 feet you should get a fifth-wheel. I know it's not a hard rule and more of an opinion from someone that had been camping for decades, but I decided to take his advice. I really didn't want to maintain another engine and transmission if we got a motorhome and since I already owned a Ford F350 Diesel, it really was a no brainer to go with a fifth-wheel.
Going to an RV Show can be seriously overwhelming. Hundreds if not thousands of different brands, sizes, models, etc. To keep up focused we created a spreadsheet of all the brands & models that looked good on "paper". We searched all the manufacturer's sites online and listed those that met our requirements in the spreadsheet. Don't forget to keep in mind the additional need for outdoor camper storage is based on which one you pick.
In the end, we purchased a Grand Design Reflection 303RLS. 2 years later and over 24,000 miles of traveling the South West, we are still as happy with our rig as the day we bought it. We would not hesitate to purchase another Grand Design product if we decided to replace our 303RLS. Check out their website here.
As time goes on, I plan on posting reviews of all the RV Parks we visit in our Reflection. As of this writing, I've posted reviews for Destiny RV Resort and The Springs at Borrego RV Resort and Golf Course.
