One of the most popular recipes on my blog is my Sloppy Joe Casserole. It’s understandable. It’s frickin delicious! I’ve posted other sloppy joe recipes in the past, so why not this awesome Bacon Beer & Cheese Sloppy Joe Sandwich recipe!

This sloppy joe recipe is not very different from all the others. Some ground beef with some seasoning, beer, bacon and cheese. How can you go wrong with that?

And don’t throw away that bacon grease! Bacon is expensive and the grease is great for making Scrambled Eggs, Grilled Cheese, Popcorn and even hash browns. It can keep up to 3 months if properly stored in the refrigerator.

When it comes to the beer you can use whatever type you have on hand. The type of beer does not have a significant impact on the final flavor.

But if you don’t keep beer on hand like I do and need to make a run to the local grocery store, a good Guinness is what I suggest.

How to Handle Raw Beef

  • Thaw raw ground beef on a plate on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator, to avoid dripping onto other foods.
  • Keep raw and ready-to-eat meats separate.
  • Wash hands thoroughly before and after handling raw ground beef. Wash cutting boards, bowls, and utensils used to prepare raw ground beef with hot soapy water and rinse well.
  • Use separate plates to carry raw ground beef patties to the cooking area and cooked patties to the serving area.
  • Use a Thermometer to ensure Ground Beef Reaches the Safely Cooked Internal Temperature of 160°F.

Bacon Beer & Cheese Sloppy Joe Sandwich

You will need the following ingredients to make this Bacon Beer and Cheese Sloppy Joe Sandwiches recipe (see recipe card for quantities): Ground Beef, Bacon, Yellow Onion, Ketchup, Tomato Paste, Worcestershire Sauce, Dijon Mustard, Beer, Beef Broth, Sharp Cheddar Cheese and Hamburger Buns.

  1. In a large skillet cook the bacon on medium-high heat until the bacon begins to crisp. Remove the bacon from the pan and drain all but two tablespoons of the fat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and cook until softened, 4 to 5 minutes. Add in the ground beef, lower the heat to medium and cook well, breaking it apart. Cook until well browned, 5 to 6 minutes.
  3. Add in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worchestershire sauce, dijon mustard, beer and beef broth and stir till well combined. Continue cooking until the sauce starts to evaporate and the mixture becomes “sloppy”, about 5 to 6 minutes.
  4. Add in the cheddar cheese and cooked bacon a minute before serving and stir just enough to incorporate the cheese and bacon.
  5. Serve on a toasted bun topped with cheese and bacon (optional).

  • 1 ½ lbs Ground Beef
  • 8 slices Bacon, chopped
  • ½ Yellow Onion, chopped
  • ½ Cup Ketchup
  • ¼ Cup Tomato Paste
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • 1 Cup Beer
  • ½ Cup Beef Broth
  • 2 Cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
  • 6 Hamburger Buns

    My family including myself are big bacon eaters so wanted to try this sloppy joe recipe. It was delicious. You cannot taste the beer which surprised me. But in the end we all enjoyed it so much that I will make it for company this weekend.
