Mountain Gate RV Park is located in Redding, CA. Roughly 8 hours and 500+ miles from the Southern California area. If you are on the west coast, you basically grab the 5 freeway wherever you can and head north towards the Oregon border.
Park Map
Most of their spots are large enough to accommodate large trailers and motorhomes. They offer many pull-through sites as well. Full hookups throughout the park including 50 amp which is a must for powering your A/C on those hot summer days.
Many of the spots have nice patches of grass which the dogs love. They even have a nice little dog run where you can let your dogs off the leash and let them get some exercise. On a couple of occasions, we even saw some wildlife in the park.
The last time we stayed here we arrived on the day that the fire started. On the 3rd day, the park lost power. It was over 100°F during the day and well into the night. No power, no A/C. The fire got a little too close for comfort and voluntary evacuation was ordered. We hitched up around 11 pm that night and headed south on the 5 Freeway. Found out the next day that mandatory evacuations were ordered. As far as I can tell, the park did not suffer any damage.
Local attractions
There are so many things to see and do within a short driving distance from Mountain Gate RV Park. So far we have visited Shasta Lake, Mt Shasta, Shasta Dam, Sundial Bridge, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Whiskeytown Lake and Burney Falls.
