Instant Pot BBQ Baked Beans

An easy way to make delicious BBQ Baked Beans in your Instant Pot. Simple and delicious!

Since I love Baked Beans and love my Instant Pot, it was a no-brainer for me to make these Instant Pot BBQ Baked Beans.

While this recipe does require you to soak the beans for a minimum of 8 hours, the rest is easy peasy. While most pressure cooker recipes don’t take as long as this one does, it’s well worth the wait. Trust me.

Some of you may be wondering where the “BBQ” comes into play. Well, that’s where the ketchup, molasses, maple syrup, and brown sugar come into play.

The result is delicious BBQ-flavored baked beans. When I finally released the pressure from the Instant Pot, The whole kitchen filled up with a delicious smell of baked beans and maple syrup!

I usually make my baked beans in the Slow Cooker but I wanted to make baked beans in my Instant Pot. I am trying to make almost everything I can in my Instant Pot.

I often get asked what a good substitute for molasses would be. Not sure if it’s because they don’t have any on hand or simply don’t like the flavor.

You have a few options as far as substitutes go: dark corn syrup, maple syrup, honey, or even some dark brown sugar with a little water added to it.

Remember that substituting for one of these ingredients will alter the overall flavor of this recipe.

You will need the following ingredients to make this BBQ Baked Beans in your Instant Pot Pressure Cooker recipe. For ingredient amounts please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Bacon
  • Yellow Onion
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Dried Great Northern Beans – soaked for at least 8 hours
  • Diced Tomatoes
  • Water
  • Ketchup
  • Maple Syrup – use real maple syrup when possible
  • Molasses
  • Light Brown Sugar – you can also use dark brown sugar
  • Salt
  • Ground Dry Mustard
  • Ground Black Pepper – use freshly ground if you can
  1. Drain and rinse beans. Press sauté and cook the bacon in your Instant Pot until crisp.
  2. Add onion, cook and stir for 3 minutes or until softened. Add garlic, cook and stir for 1 minute. Stir in the soaked beans, tomatoes, water, ketchup, maple syrup, molasses, brown sugar, salt, mustard, and pepper. Mix well.

  3. Secure the lid and move the pressure release valve to the sealing position. Press the manual, and cook at high pressure 45 minutes.
  4. When cooking is complete, use a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then release the remaining pressure.

Ingredients
 

  • 4 Slices Bacon, chopped
  • 1 Yellow Onion, diced
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 16 oz Dried Great Northern Beans, soaked for 8 hours
  • 14 oz Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 Cup Water
  • ¼ Cup Ketchup
  • 3 Tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 3 Tbsp Molasses
  • 2 Tbsp Light Brown Sugar, packed
  • ¾ Tsp Salt
  • ½ Tsp Ground Dry Mustard
  • â…› Tsp Ground Black Pepper

Instructions

Notes

→ If you don’t have easy access to maple syrup, you can use maple flavored bacon.
