A while back I was surfing the Internet like everyone else and came across a recipe for 3 Layered Magic Custard Bars. I would love to give the original person credit but for the life of me, I don’t remember who it was.

The original recipe claimed that during the baking process, the filling would separate into 3 layers by itself. I was skeptical so I went ahead and gave this custard bar recipe a shot. Now it’s your turn.

I will be the first to admit that I don’t know the science behind these custard bars, but it does what it says it’s going to do and these custard bars are absolutely fabulous. In fact, they are so good you will be inclined to eat more than one of them!

For the magic to work, make sure you use warm milk. I often get asked what the temperature of the milk should be and I suggest the milk be slightly warmer than room temperature.

In addition to using electric beaters, you can use a stand mixer with a whisk attachment for whisking the egg whites into stiff peaks. Doing this will allow you to focus on whisking the other mixture while the stand mixer does its thing.
