Mixed Berry Chia Seed Jam

PB&J. I’m sure that everyone has had Peanut Butter & Jam at one point or another in their life. Some of us still do. I’m sure everyone keeps a jar of their favorite peanut bar in their pantry at all times.

But what about jam? I’m sure some of you do but not everyone is well prepared for when the mood strikes you. No worries, I got you covered with this Mixed Berry Chia Seed Jam.

Mixed Berry Chia Seed Jam

The thickening agent for this jam is chia seeds. The nice thing about chia seeds is that there is no gluten or GMOs to worry about. Additionally, you will benefit from the added nutrition without altering the flavor of the jam.

Mixed Berry Chia Seed Jam
  • Using a ladle, fill sterilized mason jars leaving about 1/2 inch of headspace.
  • Remove any air bubbles by inserting a flexible spatula down the sides of the jars. Adjust headspace if necessary.
  • Wipe jar rims, place lids on jar and screw on bands finger tight.
  • Place jars in a large pot of boiling water for 20 minutes. Move jars to a cooling rack and let cool until the lids “pop”. Do not tighten bands. Let jars cool for at least 4 hours. Test seal by pressing the center of the lid. It should not give. If it makes a popping sound, it has NOT been sealed.

You will need the following ingredients to make this Mixed Berry Chia Seed Jam recipe. For ingredient amounts please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Fresh Blueberries
  • Fresh Raspberries
  • Honey
  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Chia Seeds
  1. In a large heavy saucepan combine half of the berries and the honey. Bring just to boiling, stirring frequently, reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat.
  2. Lightly mash berry mixture with a potato masher or fork. Stir in the remaining berries, the cinnamon and chia seeds. Bring just to boiling, reduce heat. Simmer uncovered about 10 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat. Remove and discard cinnamon sticks.
  3. Ladle hot jam into clean half-pint storage jars, leaving a 1/4 inch headspace. Seal and label.

Notes

→ You can store the jars in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
→ You can also keep the jars in the freezer. When you are ready to use the jam, let the jam thaw out at room temperature.
