Pam’s Yankee Noodle

I was inspired to make this Yankee Noodle dish after eating my mother-in-law’s family recipe. This dish is super easy to make and tastes great!

This Yankee Noodle recipe is an old family recipe from my mother-in-law Pam. Apparently, she used to make this noodle dish all the time, mainly because of the simple ingredients this recipe calls for.

This is one of those recipes that I would call comfort food. I mean how can you go wrong with pasta, cheese, and meat?

Having made this noodle recipe a handful of times over the years, I suddenly realized that I have no idea why this dish is called “Yankee” Noodles. I texted my mother-in-law to see if she knew why.

No dice. This is what she remembered about this recipe: “I got this recipe when I was in grad school. One year we all had to bring a recipe and our teacher put together a recipe book. The Yankee Noodle recipe wasn’t mine”.

How to Handle Raw Beef

  • Thaw raw ground beef on a plate on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator, to avoid dripping onto other foods.
  • Keep raw and ready-to-eat meats separate.
  • Wash hands thoroughly before and after handling raw ground beef. Wash cutting boards, bowls, and utensils used to prepare raw ground beef with hot soapy water and rinse well.
  • Use separate plates to carry raw ground beef patties to the cooking area and cooked patties to the serving area.
  • Use a Thermometer to ensure Ground Beef Reaches the Safely Cooked Internal Temperature of 160°F.

Not a fan of red meat? No problem as you can substitute the ground beef for some lean ground turkey without compromising the overall flavor of this pasta dish.

What does better with a great pasta dish than some Cheesy Garlic Bread. This is the best garlic bread you will ever have!

You will need the following ingredients to make this Yankee Noodle recipe (see recipe card for quantities): Ground Beef, Yellow Onion, Worcestershire Sauce, Garlic Cloves, Tomatoes, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Noodles, Black Olives, Parmesan Cheese and Salt & Pepper.

  1. In a large skillet, brown Ground Beef together with chopped Onion, Worcestershire and Garlic.
  2. Add the diced tomatoes and bring to a boil.
  3. Add the package of small noodles and mix well ensuring the noodles are covered in liquid. Salt and Pepper to taste.
  4. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until the noodles are cooked.
  5. Optionally top with parmesan, black olives and/or sun-dried tomatoes before serving.

Ingredients
 

  • 1 lbs Ground Beef
  • 1 Yellow Onion
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 4 Garlic Cloves
  • 28 oz Diced Tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 lb Pasta
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

Toppings (Optional)

  • 1 Cup Black Olives, diced
  • Sun-Dried Tomatoes, to taste
  • ½ Cup Parmesan Cheese

Instructions

    My mother had a similar recipe that she started serving us in 1960. My guess is that the recipe came from a magazine like Redbook, Family Circle or Good Housekeeping. It has been a family staple and although I can make it from memory, I don’t have it written down, so went searching for it on line, when I stumbled on yours/ Pam’s.
