Slow Cooked Baked Beans

These Slow Cooked Baked Beans are Packed full of Flavors. Put everything in a pot, press a button and wait 4 hours! Perfect for your next BBQ

Slow Cooked Baked Beans

These Slow Cooked Baked Beans are about as close as I can remember to a recipe I had decades ago.

These baked beans are hearty packed with 3 different kinds of beans, beef, bacon with some sweetness from the brown sugar and molasses.

I cooked these beans on high for 4 hours, but you can also cook them on low for about 8 hours.

If you like your baked beans especially thick, you can add a couple of spoonfuls of cornstarch until you reach the desired consistency.

Out of all the recipes I have made over the years, I am often asked to make these baked beans by family & friends. I have no problem with that as this is one of my favorite baked beans recipes.

Try to resist as much as possible the temptation to open the lid while it’s cooking as the slow cooker loses heat. By just opening the lid to stir the contents can make the internal temperature drop by 10°F to 15°F.

If you struggle to make bacon perfectly, I’ve put together a short tutorial on How to Make Perfect Bacon – 3 Ways. Check it out! My preferred method is baking it in the oven.

And don’t throw away that bacon grease! Bacon is expensive and the grease is great for making Scrambled Eggs, Grilled Cheese, Popcorn and even hash browns. It can keep up to 3 months if properly stored in the refrigerator.

How to Handle Raw Beef

  • Thaw raw ground beef on a plate on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator, to avoid dripping onto other foods.
  • Keep raw and ready-to-eat meats separate.
  • Wash hands thoroughly before and after handling raw ground beef. Wash cutting boards, bowls, and utensils used to prepare raw ground beef with hot soapy water and rinse well.
  • Use separate plates to carry raw ground beef patties to the cooking area and cooked patties to the serving area.
  • Use a Thermometer to ensure Ground Beef Reaches the Safely Cooked Internal Temperature of 160°F.

I often get asked what a good substitute for molasses would be. Not sure if it’s because they don’t have any on hand or simply don’t like the flavor.

You have a few options as far as substitutes go: dark corn syrup, maple syrup, honey or even some dark brown sugar with a little water added to it.

Remember that substituting for one of these ingredients will alter the overall flavor of this recipe.

You will need the following ingredients to make this baked beans recipe in your slow cooker (see recipe card for quantities): Ground Beef, Bacon, Red Kidney Beans, Navy Beans, Yellow Onion, Pork & Beans, Light Brown Sugar, Ketchup, Molasses and Yellow Mustard.

  1. Drain all the beans except for one can of pork and beans.
  2. Combine all ingredients in the crockpot and heat on high for at least 4 hours or on low for 8 hours.

These baked beans are to die for. My family just loved them. They were easy to make as they were in my slow cooker. Will make this recipe again.
