I love to use this Citrus Marinade when making chicken. The marinade makes all the difference in the world in my opinion. While I usually like to use Jose’s Chicken Marinade, every now and then I like to try something new.
I know you can take the easy way out and just season your chicken with some salt & pepper, but I think the extra 5 minutes required to make this marinade will make a world of difference in the taste and texture of the chicken.
Marinating the chicken breasts is a quick & easy way to enhance the flavor and texture of the chicken. If you’ve never marinated chicken before you have no idea what you are missing out on!
When it comes time to cook the chicken, you can use your favorite method. You can either bake the chicken, grill on a BBQ or even cook it in a skillet.
Just make sure the internal temperature reaches 165°F using a food grade thermometer. They are cheap and I think everyone should have one in their kitchen.

Gather your Ingredients
You will need the following ingredients to make this Citrus Marinade for Chicken recipe. For ingredient amounts please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Oranges – try to use big fresh oranges
- Garlic Cloves – Use more to taste if desired
- Olive Oil – use the best olive oil you can afford
- Cayenne Pepper – optional if you don’t like heat
- Salt & Pepper – adds a little seasoning
How to Make Citrus Marinade
- Zest both oranges in a small bowl.
- Juice the oranges into the bowl with the zest. Add the minced garlic, Olive Oil, Cayenne Pepper and salt & pepper. Whisk till well combined.
- Place the chicken in a freezer bag. Add the marinade to the bag and toss to coat the chicken thoroughly.
- Let the chicken marinate for at least 15 minutes before using.
- Cook the chicken using your favorite method.
