    el paso bbq sauce

This El Paso BBQ Sauce is better than any store-bought BBQ sauce. If not better than what you get from your local grocery store, it's equally as good.

BBQ Sauce has gotten a bit expensive in grocery stores so why not make your own at home for a fraction of the cost? I mean we all like to save money right?

I realize that the list of ingredients for this recipe seems a little weird for a BBQ Sauce. It has the usual ingredients like Ketchup, Vinegar and Worcestershire Sauce. But Celery and Bay Leaves? Why not...

Once the BBQ Sauce is done simmering and the solids have been strained in a colander, the sauce will still be "watery". This is normal and should thicken up a little as it cools down. It may take several hours for the sauce to totally cool down.

    💭 What is a Reduction

A reduction is when you simmer or boil a liquid until the desired consistency is reached. Once the boiling begins, the liquid will go down (that's the reduction part), usually leaving a line of residue that circles the interior of your pot. This is a good indication for you to tell if you are at your goal or if you should continue boiling.

If the sauce still doesn't have the consistency you were hoping for, you can use some all purpose flour or a cornstarch slurry to thicken it up but keep in mind that "Texas" style BBQ sauce is usually thinner than most others.

This BBQ Sauce has a nice sweet and tangy flavor to it. Since the consistency of this sauce is on the thin side, it makes it perfect for tossing with some shredded chicken or great for basting chicken on the grill.

    • ⅛ teaspoon Salt
    • 1 ½ Cups Water
    • 2 Celery Stick, chopped
    • 3 Bay Leaves
    • 1 Garlic Clove
    • 2 tablespoon Yellow Onion, chopped
    • 4 tablespoon Unsalted Butter
    • 4 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
    • ½ teaspoon Paprika
    • ⅛ teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

    Instructions

    • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer about 15 minutes.
    • Remove from heat and strain. Store sauce in a mason jar or bottle.

    Notes

→ Contrary to popular belief, a whole head of celery is called a stalk and a single “stick” from the stalk is called a rib. Since most call a rib of celery "stalk", I use the term Celery Stick to try and avoid any confusion.
