slices of chicken sausage pizza

Now that I keep a stash of my Homemade Pizza Dough in the freezer, I find myself experimenting with different toppings. We had some Apple Chicken Sausage in the freezer so I figured I would use them up to make this Chicken Sausage Pizza.

The Chicken Sausage was pre-cooked so it was really easy to make this pizza. I added some sliced red onions and a yellow bell pepper for a little crunch and sweetness.

In addition to my Homemade Pizza Dough I used some of my No-Cook Pizza Sauce. If you are not in the mood to make homemade pizza dough or sauce, feel free to use the store-bought stuff. Personally I like to make my own ingredients when I can to save a little money and have control over the flavors (and as a side bonus, fewer chemicals).

Since I was making this pizza in my Pizza Oven and was using pre-cooked sausage, I added them directly to the pizza and let the oven crisp everything up. If you are going to use a regular oven and prefer your veggies to be on the tender side, you will want to grill the sausage, onion and bell pepper in a skillet for a few minutes before adding them to the pizza.

You will need the following ingredients to make this Chicken Sausage Pizza recipe. For ingredient amounts please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Chicken Sausage – any flavor and brand you want to use. I like apple chicken sausage
  • Red Onion – the quantity listed on the recipe card is for a 12-inch pizza. You will need to adjust based on the size you are making
  • Yellow Bell Pepper – just like the red onion, you may need to adjust the amount based on the size of the pizza you are making
  • Pizza Sauce – you can make your own or use your favorite store-bought pizza sauce
  • Pizza Dough – I like to make my own pizza dough but you can use store-bought dough if you want
  • Part Skim Mozzarella Cheese – always best to shred your own but you can use pre-shredded cheese
  1. Preheat the oven to the highest temperature possible. If you’re using a regular oven, place the pizza stone in the oven while it preheats to get it nice and hot.
  2. Spread the pizza sauce over the pizza dough. Top with the sausage, onions, bell peppers and cheese.

  3. Use a pizza peel to place the pizza on the stone in the oven. To ensure the pizza doesn’t stick to the peel, lightly dust with semolina flour, cornmeal or all purpose flour.
  4. Bake until the crust is brown on the cheese has melted. Approximately 7 minutes in a pizza oven or 10-12 in a regular oven.
