If you are not familiar with A&W, they started serving its famous root beer back in 1919 in Lodi, California. A&W is the first American chain restaurant to reach the 100-year milestone.

I’m sure most of you don’t bother with this but to ensure that your Hot Dog is properly cooked, the internal temperature should be at least 140°F. Easily checked with a digital thermometer.

You will need the following ingredients to make this Copycat Whistle Dogs recipe from A&W (see recipe card for quantities): Hot Dogs, Hot Dog Buns, Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Sweet Relish and White Onion.

  1. Slice the hot dogs down the middle but not all the way through.
  2. Heat up the grill to medium and grill the hot dogs on both sides until nice grill marks appear and internal temperature reaches 140°F.
  3. Toast the buns on the grill, open side down.
  4. Place one hot dog in each bun and fill the hot dog with cheese. Put the hot dog under a broiler to melt the cheese.
  5. Top with crisp bacon, relish, and onions.

Ingredients
 

  • 4 Hot Dogs
  • 4 Hot Dog Buns, toasted
  • 1 Cup Cheddar Cheese, grated
  • 4 slices Bacon, cooked crisp
  • ¼ Cup Sweet Relish
  • ¼ Cup White Onion, finely chopped

Instructions
