pasta de bocadito

Here’s another delicious Cuban Recipe my good friend Gus told me about. A very popular dish from his birthplace of Havana, Cuba.

When he first told me about these Ham Spread Sliders (Pasta de Bocadito) my first reaction was something along the lines of “I think I will pass”. Then I tried one and thought they were actually pretty dang good.

He told me that while his family uses fresh finely diced ham at times, they often use SPAM. I can’t say I have ever eaten SPAM in my life but quite familiar with its reputation.

I figured if I was going to make Pasta De Bocadito for the first time at home, I might as well try using SPAM as not only will it make the process easier but might be a cheaper as well.

A popular way of consuming this Cuban deliciousness is to spread it on small slider buns. But you can also serve it with crackers or sliced bread for a delicious appetizer.

Tips

  • For a little more heat, add a dash of hot sauce like Tabasco or Cholula or some finely chopped jalapeños
  • You can also add a bit of grated cheese to the mixture for extra flavor
