maple syrup ham steaks

I was going through some old recipe books and found this recipe for Maple Syrup Ham Steaks in an old French Canadian recipe book I had.

It was written in French and quantities were in metric but with a little elbow grease and some help from some of my family members who speak French I was able to modernize this simple recipe.

Try to use pure maple syrup as much as possible. While pancake syrup is an acceptable substitute, it is not the same thing!

The original recipe called for currants instead of raisins. I decided to use raisins instead because I believe they are a lot more common than currants. But you can certainly use an equal amount of currants if you have some on hand.

When I made this recipe I didn’t have any leftover ham on hand so I purchased these ham steaks pre-cut from my local grocery store. Try to buy the leanest cut you can.

My family loves ham so for this year’s Thanksgiving I decided to make this recipe. It was delicious. The leftovers the next day were just as delicious.
