These Fish Tacos take only a few minutes to put together. The recipe also includes a simple Green Chili Sauce to top them off. Delicious!
When it comes to eating tacos, you have so many options. You can get Chicken Tacos, Beef Tacos or Pork Tacos. But there’s nothing like good deep-fried Fish Tacos. I’m even including a Green Chili Sauce to go with these awesome tacos.
I almost always have a bag of Tilapia Fillets in the freezer so that’s my go-to fish for tacos.
If you are not a fan of Tilapia, you can use any type of white fish that is lean and flakey. You can try some halibut, mahi-mahi, snapper, cod or even bass.
Tips
- If you are fortunate enough to own a dredge station, feel free to use that instead of using 3 shallow dishes for the all purpose flour, egg white and panko bread crumbs.
I decided not to list ingredients for toppings as it’s such a personal “thing” for lack of a better term.
In addition to the tomatoes and special sauce listed on the recipe card, you can use shredded cabbage or lettuce, avocados, diced red onions and so much more. Experiment and make this recipe your own.
How Many Tacos per Person
For planning purposes, you should plan for two tacos per person. Each taco will have approximately 2 ounces of meat plus toppings. For reference, one pound of ground beef will yield about 14 ounces once cooked.
Deep Frying Oils
When it comes to Deep Frying food you want to choose an oil that has a high smoke point and neutral in flavor so it won’t affect the flavor of whatever you are frying. Vegetable Oil, Corn Oil, Canola Oil and Peanut Oil are some of the more popular and affordable options.

Equipment Needed
Equipment can have a big impact on how a recipe turns out. Below are some of my favorite pieces of equipment that I use when making this recipe.
Gather your Ingredients
You will need the following ingredients to make this Fish taco with Green Chili Sauce recipe (see recipe card for quantities): Sour Cream, Green Chilies, Fresh Cilantro, Fresh Lime Juice, Tilapia Fillets, All Purpose Flour, Egg Whites, Panko Bread Crumbs, Canola Oil, Salt, White Pepper, Cayenne Pepper, Paprika, Tomatoes and Corn Tortillas.
How to Make Fish Tacos with Green Chili Sauce
Make the Green Chili Sauce
Place the sour cream, green chilies, cilantro and lime juice in a food processor. Cover and process until blended. Set aside.
Prepare the Fish
Cut each tilapia fillet lengthwise into two portions. Place the all purpose flour, egg white and bread crumbs in separate shallow bowls. Dip the tilapia in flour, then egg white, then the panko bread crumbs.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the tilapia in the oil in batches for 4-5 minutes on each side or until fish flakes easily with a fork. Combine the seasonings. Sprinkle over fish.
Assemble the Tacos
Place a portion of fish on each tortilla. Top with about 2 tablespoons of the special sauce. Sprinkle with tomato and any other topping you desire.

These fish tacos are the best I have made in years. My family love fish tacos, but I never seemed to get them right. These were delicious and I realized it was the sauce. A big hit for my family.
