One of the many family traditions we have at Christmas is having Prime Rib for Christmas dinner. Most of us love Creamy Horseradish Sauce with our Prime Rib so this year I decided to make homemade horseradish sauce.
I realize it would be much easier to bring a bottle of horseradish sauce from the store, but by making my own homemade creamy horseradish sauce, I can tweak it to my liking. Like adding a bit more Tabasco Sauce for those of us that like it really hot.
Like most sauce recipes, this horseradish sauce is super easy to make. Mix a few ingredients in a bowl then let it set in the refrigerator so all the flavors can meld together.
Once you start making your own sauces and condiments, you will never go back to store-bought.
This recipe does not offer many opportunities for substitutions though. It pretty much is what it is. The only ingredient you could substitute is the Tabasco Sauce.
You can pretty much use whatever hot sauce you have on hand, but I always have Tabasco in the fridge so that's what I use.
If you are not well versed in horseradish, prepared horseradish is typically made with grated horseradish root, vinegar, and salt.
Prepared horseradish is not the same as horseradish sauce BUT is an ingredient in it. Make sure you use the right one if you decide to make this creamy horseradish sauce.
💭 Recipe Tip
The easiest way I have found to drain the prepared horseradish is to place it in a fine mesh colander and using the back of a spoon, press down on the mixture. Stirring occasionally, continue to do this until no more liquid comes out.
