I was making some homemade hummus as an appetizer for a small gathering I was hosting and wanted to try something slightly different so I decided to make this Superb Lemon Hummus recipe.
That being said if you’ve made hummus before you will notice the ingredients are very similar to a classic hummus recipe.
The main reason I am calling this a lemon hummus recipe is because the ratio of lemon juice to beans is different than most other homemade hummus recipes and with the lack of seasonings in this recipe the lemon flavor stands out a bit more. At least that’s how I am seeing it.
What is Hummus
Hummus is a popular dip or spread from the Middle East. It is typically made with Tahini, Olive Oil, Garlic and Garbanzo Beans (aka Chickpeas). It has the consistency of a creamy paste. Usually served with Pita or an assortment of vegetables.
What is Tahini
Tahini is a Mediterranean condiment made from sesame seeds. It is one of the main ingredients in hummus as well as other Mediterranean recipes like Baba Ganoush.
You can serve this homemade lemon hummus recipe with some pita chips or toasted pita rounds or even some fresh vegetables like baby carrots, cucumbers or even some celery sticks.
The nutritional information on the recipe card below assumes you are serving this hummus with pita rounds.
Recipe Tip
Depending on where you live as well as the brand, Garbanzo Beans may be called Chickpeas. That’s because they are one and the same. Different names for the same thing.
