I was in the mood for a tuna sandwich and wanted to try something different instead of making my Tuna Salad Sandwich with Tajin Seasoning or my Lemon Pepper Tuna Fish Sandwich.
This sandwich recipe is not your typical tuna sandwich either. A little apple, cabbage and a few other goodies make this one delicious sandwich!
When selecting the tuna for this recipe, you need to keep a few things in mind. Personally I prefer to use a chunky tuna packed in water. Tuna packed in oil has a richer taste so if that is what you are looking for then by all means.
I also like to use tuna that is certified to be dolphin-safe which means tuna caught using fishing methods that minimize harm to dolphins. This is a personal preference and is obviously not a requirement for this sandwich recipe.
As far as what kind of apples you should use for this recipe I like to use Honeycrisp apples as I always have some on hand but you can also use Granny Smith, Pink Lady or even Fuji apples. Use what you have on hand or the type you like to eat.
You also have many options when it comes to what kind of bread you use for these sandwiches. You can make them using toasted sourdough bread like I prefer or wheat bread, pita pockets, buns, etc. Use your favorite bread!
