I realize this is not so much a recipe as it is a how-to make Grilled Cheese Sandwiches in your Air Fryer. While Grilled Cheese sandwiches are simple enough to make on your cooktop, there might be some of you that want the ease of making them in your air fryer. They are especially good with a side of Air Fryer French Fries.

The ingredients I list below in the recipe card are pretty generic. This is by design. Not everyone has the same taste in bread or cheese for that matter. The beauty of this air fryer recipe is that you can literally use any combination of bread and cheese. The main takeaway here is the method and duration for making them.

Depending on the type of Air Fryer you have, I recommend using toothpicks to hold the top piece of bread down while they are air frying. Otherwise, you risk the chance of the top piece flying around the air fryer. Don't ask me why I know that.

Mind you, I've made grilled cheese sandwiches in a couple of different air fryers now (basket or oven) and not all of them behave the same way. You might want to experiment and see if you need the toothpick hack for your air fryer.

When I make grilled cheese, I like to use different kinds of cheese depending on my mood. Cheddar, Provolone, Mozzarella, and Monterey Jack all make great choices. Just make sure you use a cheese that melts very well. I also like to add a few slices of cooked bacon or pepperoni at times. I've even added some of my Candied Jalapeños after the grilled cheese comes out of the air fryer.

More often than not I use Texas Toast when making grilled cheese sandwiches. If I don't have any Texas Toast on hand I like to use some sourdough bread which I almost always have on hand.

For me, the bread-to-cheese ratio is key to a delicious grilled cheese sandwich. Some air fryers do a better job than others in browning the bread even though they are indeed toasted, you might want to also broil for a minute or so if you want that look.

Place two slices of your favorite cheese between two slices of bread. Spread a light layer of butter on both sides of the sandwich.

These air fryer grill cheese are very easy and fast to make. I used rye bread because that was all I had, and they turned out perfectly. This will be the only way for me to make grill cheese in the future.
