A fantastic recipe for BBQ Chicken Salad Sandwiches. So easy to make and tastes great on your favorite bread or over a bed of lettuce.
Here’s a super easy BBQ Chicken Salad Sandwich recipe for all of you to try. You probably have all the ingredients you need to make these sandwiches in your kitchen.
One of the things I like about this sandwich recipe is that you can cook your chicken using whatever method you prefer or you can make it even easier by using pre-cooked rotisserie chicken.
How to Handle Raw Chicken
- Leave the chicken in the fridge until ready to use.
- Be careful of dripping juices. Clean up immediately.
- Do not wash raw chicken (prevents cross-contamination).
- Wash all utensils and cutting boards.
- Wash your hands after handling raw chicken.
If you are not picky about your chicken, you can even use shredded chicken from a can. I have to be honest I tried it once and it wasn’t terrible. But I really prefer to use fresh chicken when I can.
Ingredient Substitution
If you don’t have any great yogurt on hand, you can substitute for some mayonnaise. I’ve made this sandwich recipe both ways and they are both equally delicious.
Just keep in mind that each sandwich will have almost double the calories if you use mayonnaise!
When it comes to the BBQ Sauce, feel free to use your favorite kind and flavor. Almost all BBQ sauces pair perfectly with chicken.
Or if you are in the mood and have time on your hands, you can make your own using my Signature Whiskey BBQ Sauce recipe or my El Paso BBQ Sauce recipe.
While I love to eat these sandwiches in a bun, specifically a yummy Brioche Bun, you can use whatever you prefer and have on hand. Like I always say, use what you got!
I like to top my chicken salad sandwich with sliced tomato and some leaf lettuce. Sometimes I also like to add a piece of slice cheese.
Like a good pepper jack or Monterey Jack cheese but you can make this sandwich your own and top it with whatever you want or put nothing on it at all.
