I hadn’t had breakfast at McDonald’s in decades until recently. I didn’t want a McMuffin of any kind so I ordered their Breakfast Burrito.

It hit the spot – maybe a little small for me – so I decided to make them at home.

The beauty of recipes like this one is that you most likely already have all the ingredients on hand. The only ingredient you may not have is the chopped dried onions.

You also need to make sure that you use chopped dried onions vs minced dried onions to try and best match what McDonald’s uses.

How to Rehydrate Dried Onions

Place the dried onions in a heatproof bowl. Pour boiling water over the onions, ensuring they are fully submerged. Let the onions soak for about 20 minutes.

They should be plump and tender. If they still feel a bit tough, let them soak for an additional 5-10 minutes.

Once fully rehydrated, drain the onions using a fine-mesh colander.

Since the goal of a Copycat Recipe is for it to taste exactly like the original, it’s only natural to rate this recipe against the original. This Copycat recipe rates a solid 9 out of 10 in my opinion.

When the time comes to warm up your tortillas, you have a few options. You can wrap the tortillas in foil and bake them for 10 minutes at 350°F. You can also put them in a non-stick pan to heat both sides of the tortilla (this is how I usually do it), heat them over an open flame, or if you must, wrap them in a damp paper towel and microwave them for about 30 seconds.

I like to add more filling as McDonald’s burritos are pretty small. Good recipe.
