There's nothing better in the world than Homemade Flour Tortillas. And they are a lot easier to make than you think. You only need 3 ingredients and some water!

To make the job even easier, I highly recommend a tortilla press like the one pictured above. They can be found for under $20 on Amazon. It will pay for itself in savings from not having to buy tortillas at the grocery store.

If you don't have a tortilla press and don't want to buy one you can simply roll out the dough balls with a rolling pin on a floured surface into a roughly 7-inch circle and approximately ⅛ inch thick.

    💭 Recipe Tip

Cook time is per tortilla and is approximate. Go by the way it looks more than by time. Do not overcook or the tortilla will become crispy. Depending on how hot your griddle is, expect them to go 20-40 seconds per side. Again, go on how they look and not by time.

    📋 Gather your Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients to make this Homemade Flour Tortillas recipe (see recipe card for quantities): All Purpose Flour, Vegetable Shortening, Salt and Warm Water.

🥣 How to make Homemade Flour Tortillas

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and shortening. Make sure the shortening is completely incorporated into the flour.
Dissolve the salt in the water and pour ⅔ cup over the flour. Using a fork, make sure all dry ingredients have been dampened.
Move the dough to a floured surface and knead until smooth. Divide dough into 12 formed balls. Set them on a plate, cover and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
Place a dough ball in your tortilla press or alternatively roll out each dough ball using a rolling pin to approximately 7 inches in diameter and ⅛ inch thick.
Lay one tortilla flat on a heated pan and cook for 20 to 40 seconds or until it starts to bubble and brown. Flip the tortilla and cook for another 20 to 40 seconds or until it starts to brown. Repeat till all the dough is used up.
Tortillas can be refrigerated in a sealable bag for up to 5 days.
