I love making homemade bbq sauce and this Jack Daniel's Honey Whiskey based barbecue sauce is perfect for basting chicken, shrimp or even ribs on the grill.
While this homemade Jack Daniel's Honey Whiskey bbq sauce recipe calls for a few more ingredients than a typical barbecue sauce recipe, it's still super easy to make.
💭 Ingredient Substitution
Jack Daniel's Honey Whiskey is sweeter than just plain Jack Daniel's Whiskey but if that's all you have on hand you can substitute it for the honey whiskey.
Also, if you don't have any coconut oil on hand you can substitute it for an equal amount of butter, vegetable shortening or bacon grease.
Contrary to popular belief, I prefer to slowly cook the chicken without any sauce and then baste the chicken with the bbq sauce in the final 10 to 15 minutes of cooking.
This will prevent the chicken from burning before the internal temperature reaches the target of 165°F.
