This Turkey Sloppy Joe Sandwich recipe is super easy to make as you would expect. I like that this recipe uses Turkey instead of ground beef as it is a little healthier.

    ingredients in skillet

Sloppy Joes have been around for more than half a century. There are quite a few variations to this classic sloppy joes recipe and this one is unique as it uses condensed tomato soup as one of its ingredients.

    mixture for sandwiches

Like many homemade sloppy joes recipes, this one calls for brown sugar. The brown sugar will give the meat mixture just enough sweetness. You can use either light or dark brown sugar. The only difference between the two is that dark brown sugar has a little more molasses in it.

For the buns, your favorite hamburger buns will do the trick. Personally, I like to toast my buns so the bread doesn't get too soggy from the meat. If you don't have any hamburger buns on hand, feel free to use whatever kind of bread you got.

The slow cooker (aka crock pot) is used to help thicken the mixture over low heat without overcooking the ground turkey. While some brands of slow cookers may run hotter than others, you may not need the full 2 hours. Just keep an eye on it and switch to keep warm when it's ready.

Try to resist as much as possible the temptation to open the lid while it's cooking as the slow cooker loses heat. By just opening the lid to stir the contents can make the internal temperature drop by 10°F to 15°F.

I loved this recipe. The turkey combined with the tomato soup and brown sugar made this very tasty. A keeper for sure.
