These Caramel Shortbread Squares are a Buttery Shortbread with Sweet Caramel with a Milk Chocolate topping. Sinful!
I recently made a batch of these Caramel Shortbread Squares for a camping trip we were taking with the in-laws. Between the 4 of us, we ate the whole pan in two days! There is no way you will be able to resist the flavor of these bars.
When you think about it, who doesn’t like caramel and chocolate? Layer that over a shortbread base and you have heaven!

- If you prefer your squares to be a little thicker you can use an 8-inch baking dish

Gather your Ingredients
You will need the following ingredients to make this Caramel Shortbread Squares recipe (see recipe card for quantities): Unsalted Butter, White Sugar, All Purpose Flour, Unsalted Butter, Light Brown Sugar, Light Corn Syrup, Sweetened Condensed Milk and Milk Chocolate Chips.
How to Make Caramel Shortbread Squares
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine 2/3 Cup butter, white sugar and flour until the mixture is crumbly.
- Press the mixture into a 9-inch square baking pan and bake for 20 minutes.
- In a saucepan, combine 1/2 Cup butter, brown sugar, corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk. Bring to a boil and continue to boil for 5 minutes, stirring regularly.
- Remove the caramel mixture from the heat and continuously mix for about 3 minutes. Pour the caramel mixture over the crust. Let cool in the refrigerator until the caramel mixture is firm.
- Place the milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 1 minute. Stir and continue to heat and stir every 20 seconds until the chocolate is smooth.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the top of the caramel mixture and smooth out with a spatula.
- Return to the refrigerator and let it cool until the chocolate becomes firm to the touch.

- ½ Cup Unsalted Butter
- ½ Cup Light Brown Sugar, Packed
- 2 Tbsp Light Corn Syrup
- ½ Cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 ¼ Cups Milk Chocolate Chips
Instructions

These caramel bars are so easy to make and are so delicious. It took me no time at all to make and I brought them to a function I was attending and they were a great hit. As a matter of fact I gave out the recipe to three of my colleagues. It’s a keeper for me and my family.
