The Coney Island Sauce is basically a recipe for Chili Sauce for Hot Dogs. Similar to my Easy Cincinnati Chili recipe and my other Coney Island Hot Dog Sauce recipe. The bottom line is if you like chili sauce on your dogs this recipe is for you!
Cooking Hot Dogs
I’m sure most of you don’t bother with this but to ensure that your Hot Dog is properly cooked, the internal temperature should be at least 140°F. Easily checked with a digital thermometer.
A&W usually serves their hot dogs with chopped white onions and some shredded cheese on top of the chili.
Copycat Rating
Since the goal of a Copycat Recipe is for it to taste exactly like the original, it’s only natural to rate this recipe against the original. This Copycat recipe rates a solid 9 out of 10 in my opinion.
Feel free to leave those out if you or your guests don’t want them. The star of the show here is the chili topping (aka Coney Island Sauce).
If you are not familiar with A&W, they started serving its famous root beer back in 1919 in Lodi, California. A&W is the first American chain restaurant to reach the 100-year milestone.
