Not only are these Mini Taco Calzones easy to make, they are also delicious! They make a great appetizer or even as a main course.
I love making these Mini Taco Calzones. They are so easy to make which makes it a great recipe to make with your kids.
The reason why I am calling these “Taco” Calzones is because of the seasoning used for the meat as well as the taco sauce. It’s totally up to you what heat level you want to use for the taco sauce.
As I was serving these as an appetizer for a party I was having, I decided to make them smaller than usual hence the “mini” reference. You can, however, adjust the size as you see fit.
Ingredient Substitution
You can use Ground Beef instead of Ground Turkey. If you don’t have any Taco Sauce onhand, you can use Salsa or even Pico de Gallo.
If you don’t have any Mexican Blend Cheese, you can use some Monterey Jack Cheese or some Cheddar Cheese.
What is a Calzone
A calzone is pizza dough filled with cheese, meats and vegetables. The dough is baked until golden and the cheese filling is melted and hot. It’s typically served with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
Gather your Ingredients
You will need the following ingredients to make this Mini Taco Calzones recipe (see recipe card for quantities): Ground Turkey, Taco Sauce, Chili Powder, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Refrigerated Pizza Dough, Mexican Blend Cheese, Eggs and Water.
How to Make Mini Taco Calzones
- In a skillet, cook the ground turkey until browned. Drain the fat. Place the meat in a mixing bowl.
- To the ground turkey, stir in the taco sauce, chili powder, onion powder and garlic powder. Mix until combined and set aside.
- Unroll the refrigerated pizza dough and form a rectangle. Cut the dough into 12 even squares.
- Divide the meat mixture among the dough squares. Sprinkle each with the shredded cheese. Brush the edges of the dough with a little water. Lift one corner of each square and stretch the dough to the opposite corner, making a triangle.
- Use a fork and press the edges to seal the calzones. Arrange the calzones on a greased baking sheet. Prick the top of each calzone with a fork to allow the steam to escape.
- In a small bowl, stir together egg and water. Brush the tops of each calzone.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Let the calzones sit 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve with a side of salsa and sour cream if desired.

My family and I just loved these calzones. I did use ground beef instead of ground turkey because that is what I had on hand. They were very tasty.
