calzones

The thing I love about this Pepperoni Calzones recipe is how quick and easy they are to make. No “knead” (get it?) to make dough for this quick recipe.

appetizers with dipping sauce

This calzone recipe is great for a mom (or dad) that wants to cook with their kids. Pre-made dough with sauce out of a jar. Really doesn’t get much easier than this.

If you don’t have any pizza sauce on hand you can easily substitute it for your favorite pasta sauce. You can even use different flavor sauces to take your calzones up a notch.

The most challenging part of this recipe will be folding and sealing the dough of the calzones once the pepperoni filling is in it. If you don’t get a perfect seal the filling will leak out when you bake them. Happens to me often!

Instead of chopping up some pepperoni slices, you can use ground beef, ground turkey or if you like it a little spicy some ground chorizo. Just make sure you cook the meat before adding it to the unbaked calzones.

A calzone is pizza dough filled with cheese, meats and vegetables. The dough is baked until golden and the cheese filling is melted and hot. It’s typically served with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

You will need the following ingredients to make this Quick Pepperoni Calzones recipe (see recipe card for quantities): Pepperoni, Pizza Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Frozen Bread Dough, Milk, Parmesan Cheese and Italian Seasoning.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the pepperoni, pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, divide the dough into four portions. Roll each piece of dough into a 6-inch circle.
  4. Place equal amounts of the pepperoni mixture on each piece of dough.

  7. Brush milk over the top of each calzone. Sprinkle each with Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
