stromboli. fresh out of the oven

This BBQ Chicken Stromboli is a great way to use up any leftover rotisserie chicken you may have on-hand. Not only is it easy to make, you will only need about 30 minutes from start to finish.

    💭 What is Stromboli

A Stromboli is Italian bread dough or pizza dough filled with Italian cheese (like Mozzarella) and meat or vegetables. A Stromboli can measure up to 12 inches in length and 4 inches wide.

For the BBQ sauce feel free to use whatever you have on hand. Just be mindful of the other ingredients in this stromboli recipe as some combinations may not taste very good. I usually use some kind of sweet BBQ Sauce personally.

📋 What Ingredients do I need

You will need the following ingredients to make this BBQ Chicken Stromboli recipe (see recipe card for quantities): Unsalted Butter, Red Onion, Refrigerated Pizza Dough, Provolone Cheese, Rotisserie Chicken, BBQ Sauce, Egg, Italian Seasoning and Parmesan Cheese.

🥣 How to make BBQ Chicken Stromboli

    Preheat the oven to 375°F.
In a small skillet over medium-high heat add and melt the butter. Add the onions and saute until tender. Set aside.
Roll out the dough and stretch it out on a piece of parchment paper. Place the provolone cheese slices in a row down the center of the dough.
In a small bowl, toss the chicken, onions, and barbecue sauce until well combined. Place the chicken mixture over the provolone cheese slices.
Starting on one side, carefully roll the dough up like a jelly roll, using the parchment to help roll it over.
Slide the stromboli to the middle of the parchment so that the seam is on the bottom.
Stretch and tuck the ends under the stromboli. Apply an egg wash to the outside of the dough and sprinkle with Italian seasoning and parmesan. Cut several diagonal slits into the top of the dough.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top. Serve with barbecue sauce.
