One of the things I remember the most about eating at McDonald’s is their Hot Apple Pies. There was just something about having a delicious hot apple pie served in a cool little red cardboard container.

I must admit that I haven’t had an Apple Pie from McDonald’s in years, probably decades. That was until I came across this copycat recipe from McDonald’s. America’s favorite fast-food restaurant.

puff pastry sheets

Before I made this apple pie recipe I had to refresh my memory and get me the real deal from my local McDonald’s. I know, shame on me for getting takeout from a fast-food restaurant chain. But it was for research. I swear!

The great news is that you can make your own apple pies almost identical to the ones you would get from McDonald’s. I mean really close. if you are a fan of McDonald’s Apple Pies, you must try this super easy-to-make recipe.

Since the goal of a Copycat Recipe is for it to taste exactly like the original, it’s only natural to rate this recipe against the original. This Copycat recipe rates a solid 8 out of 10 in my opinion.

Cans of Apple Pie Filling usually come in 21 ounces cans. If you use one pastry sheet (4 apple pies) as I did in this recipe, you will have about half of the can left over. You can either use both pastry sheets or use the leftover pie filling to make a small apple pie.

You will need the following ingredients to make this Copycat Hot Apple Pies recipe from McDonald’s (see recipe card for quantities): Puff Pastry Sheets, Apple Pie Filling, Egg White, Cold Water, White Sugar and Ground Cinnamon.

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets into a 12 x 12 square. Cut the puff pastry into four 3″ wide strips. Then cut each strip in half to create a 3″ x 6″ rectangle.

  4. Divide the apple pie filling among one half of the rectangles. Using a knife cut four diagonal cuts into the remaining puff pastry rectangles. Top the apple-filled puff pastry with the cut puff pastry and press the seams together with a fork.

These copycat McDonald apple pie are just like the real thing. I made 2 batches so did not have any apples left. Great recipe.

LOVED this! I used Comstock canned apple filling. There is another version of Comstock apple filling that is low sugar and I think I would like that better. And there may be other fruit filling brands to try as well. But the process is perfect and easy! I really like the BAKED version rather than McDonalds old fried pie version! Thanks for sharing.
