cup of bbq sauce by elvis presley

I’ve always been curious about Celebrity recipes and have been a big fan of Elvis Presley for as long as I can remember so when I came across this recipe for his special BBQ Sauce I just had to give it a try.

Like many homemade BBQ Sauce recipes, this one has a tomato and vinegar base with a bunch of seasonings.

The process for making this simple recipe is no different than many others, combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for about half an hour.

The only ingredient needed to make this delicious BBQ sauce recipe that you may not have in your pantry is the Pickling Spices.

If you are not familiar with this spice, it’s typically a combination of Mustard Seed, Cinnamon, Ginger, Bay Leaves, Red Pepper, Caraway, Allspice, Coriander, Black Pepper and Clove.

Optionally, you can remove the lemon slices from the barbecue sauce before storing the sauce in an airtight container like a sterilized mason jar. Since I like to put my sauces in plastic squeezable bottles I remove the lemon slices before transferring them to the bottles.

This barbecue sauce is not only perfect for basting some baby back ribs, it’s also great for grilling chicken and everything else you would use barbecue sauce on like BBQ chicken or beef sandwiches. Heck you can even use it as a dipping sauce!

This sauce is very easy to make. Very tasty.

  2. Steve says:

Why do you say this is Elvis Presley’s special recipe. Elvis never in his life made a BBQ sauce, I know this to be a fact. Elvis never even had cookouts. He paid others to do cookout for him. Someone grossly misled you.

    1. Chef Rodney says:

Not once in the article did I say he personally made this BBQ sauce. This recipe comes from an old newspaper/magazine clipping (date & author unknown). I would be shocked if he did his own cooking. Regardless, it’s a pretty darn good BBQ sauce.

      1. Bud says:

I have hand written copy I found inserted in a book. Identical recipe. It says the recipe came from his cook, Mary Jenkins, Graceland. It is titled “Special Barbeque Sauce”.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing that little piece of history!

This BBQ sauce is very good. It was great for dipping our chicken fingers in. We have also used it as a condiment for hamburgers.
