gingerbread french toast

My wife loves French Toast, and Iโ€™m a huge fan of Gingerbread. So, when I came across this French Toast recipe, it was a no-brainer for me. As youโ€™d expect, itโ€™s incredibly easy to make on weekends for breakfast or even for dinner on a weeknight.

Many people think that French Toast originated in France. Believe it or not, that is not the case. Apparently, it was “invented” by a Chef named Joseph French. The story goes that it was supposed to be called French’s Toast, but he forgot the apostrophe. Whether that is true or not doesn’t really matter as everyone loves a good French Toast!

I love using Brioche bread when making French toast as it soaks up the batter (also known as custard) very well. I used to use a thick Texas Toast but once I tried brioche, there was no going back. If you’ve never had brioche bread before, it’s slightly sweet and buttery with a soft fluffy texture, making it perfect for French toast.

Once the French toast is done cooking, I like to add a little butter, pure maple syrup, and a good dusting of powdered sugar. Obvioulsy you can eat it as is or with different toppings like some whipped cream or some fresh berries.
