I love making Donuts. I usually bake them as I did with my Baked Donuts with Chocolate Glaze and my Baked Pumpkin Donuts with Maple Glaze and only once do I remember deep frying donuts when I made my Salvation Army Donuts.
This time, when I craved homemade donuts, I decided to make these sour cream donuts in my deep fryer. While they may not be as healthy as baked donuts but hey, weโre talking about donuts!

This donut recipe is pretty straightforward to make and especially easy if you own a deep fryer like I do. But don’t worry; even if you don’t have a deep fryer, you can easily fry them up in a skillet or saucepan.
The one thing you will need to pay attention to is depending on the size of the donuts, they may take more or less time to cook. You don’t want the outside of the donuts to be well done before the insides are done. I recommend doing a test run with 1 or 2 donuts to gauge your setup and go from there.
Recipe Tips
- The donut batter will be sticky which will make it a little hard to handle. While not required, you can let the dough sit in the fridge or freezer to firm it up before forming it into balls.
Serving Suggestions
You can eat these delicious donuts as-is, which is what I like to do, or you can optionally toss them in a little sifted powdered sugar or in a cinnamon sugar mixture while the donuts are still warm. Either way you will enjoy these donuts!
Recipe FAQ’s

Going to have to make these. I try to stay away from donuts, but buttermilk donuts are my weakness:)
