southwestern turkey burgers

We were craving some Turkey Burgers and wanted to try something different from my usual turkey burger recipes. So, I decided to make these southwestern-inspired turkey burgers.

What makes these turkey burgers southwestern is the use of onion, cumin, and cilantro. Oh and if that still doesn’t do it for you, I strongly recommend you lather on some of my Sriracha Aioli. Now that’s a gourmet burger!

When cooking turkey burgers, make sure the internal temp reaches 165°F. A good meat thermometer is something you should already have on hand. I always let the meat rest for a few minutes after cooking.

Resting the meat allows the juices to redistribute evenly throughout it instead of spilling out when you cut or bite into it. Turkey is pretty lean to begin with (little fat) so a couple of minutes should be more than enough for the burgers.

Like most of you, I like to have some french fries or chips to go with my burger. For something a little different, you should try my Spicy French Fries which you can easily make in your Air Fryer. Or if you prefer you can make some Sweet Potato Fries in your Air Fryer.

Don’t own an Air Fryer yet? No worries, we got you covered. My Baked Za’atar Sweet Potato Fries are fabulous as is my Copycat In-n-Out Animal Style Fries recipe. Oh and don’t forget to try my French Fry Dipping Sauce.

Tips

  • I highly recommend wearing Disposable Food Safe Gloves when handling raw meat
  • Make sure the internal temperature of the burgers reach 165°F.

And while you are at it, save a bit of money and make your very own Homemade Sesame Hamburger Buns. They are easier to make than you think!

You will need the following ingredients to make this Southwestern Turkey Burgers recipe. For ingredient amounts please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Lean Ground Turkey – I like to use Jennie-O brand turkey but you can obviously use whatever brand you want
  • Yellow Onion – you can also use a white onion or red onion
  • Fresh Cilantro – for those of you who don’t like the flavor of cilantro you can leave it out. You really can’t taste it too much though
  • Ground Cumin – adjust to taste
  • Garlic Cloves – if you don’t have fresh garlic on hand you can use the jarred stuff
  • Egg – you can also use an equivalent amount of liquid eggs if you prefer
  • Salt and Pepper – to taste but roughly 1/2 a teaspoon should do the trick
  • Buns – use your favorite buns. Potato buns or even Pretzel buns are a great choice for these burgers

Tried these turkey burgers tonight and they were a great hit. My daughter is a very fussy eater and just loved it.
