I'm always looking for different ways to make my turkey burgers so decided to add a little horseradish and some white cheddar cheese to the ground turkey. I also added a little seasoning just to be sure.
💭 Recipe Tip
Unlike cooking burgers made with ground beef which can be cooked rare, medium or well done, turkey burgers need to reach an internal temperature of 160-165°F to be considered safe to eat.
If you don't have one already you really need to invest in a food thermometer. It's a cheap insurance policy!
I've also included on the recipe card some toppings you might want to use with these gourmet turkey burgers but feel free to garnish them with whatever you want.
💭 Ingredient Substitution
If you don't have any prepared horseradish you can use some horseradish sauce/cream. Since it is not as potent as prepared horseradish you might need to add a little more to get that kick we are all looking for.
Additionally, you can use whatever kind of cheese you prefer. I love the flavor of white cheddar cheese so that is what I used for this recipe. Whatever you choose, just make sure it's a good melting cheese.
I finely diced the cheese to make the patties but you can also use shredded cheese — your choice.
If you feel like going the extra mile, how about you make some Homemade Sesame Hamburger Buns? There's nothing like a fresh homemade bun to go with your burger.
One word of caution, these burgers - while delicious - can be a little messy to make. Once the cheese starts to melt some may "leak" into the skillet and it can get a little greasy.
Once cooked through the cheese adds a nice crunchy element to these gourmet turkey burgers.
