I just can’t get enough of these Vodka Mashed Potatoes! It’s amazing what the vodka does for the consistency of these mashed potatoes
While cruising various foodie sites on social media, I saw a reference to a recipe for Vodka Mashed Potatoes. My first reaction was that I thought it was an odd combination of ingredients but hey, I like eclectic food so I just had to give it a try.
Now making mashed potatoes is not that difficult. And this recipe is really no different than every other mashed potato recipe out there, except the Vodka. Potato and Vodka? Yep.
Alcohol Warning
Please take into consideration that some of the alcohol in this recipe may not completely burn off and the remains could be of significant concern to recovering alcoholics, parents, and others who have ethical or religious reasons for avoiding alcohol.
But don’t worry, you can’t taste the vodka! But it sure does help with the consistency of these mashed potatoes.
Ingredient Substitution
If you are looking for a non-alcoholic substitute for the Vodka, I would suggest either using Water or a little White Grape Juice. I have not tried either of these so you will need to experiment.
Everyone knows I love to add bacon to everything so if you are a fan of bacon, fold in a cup of cooked & crumbled bacon. For a little more flair, you can add some roasted garlic to taste.
How to Make Bacon
If you struggle to make bacon perfectly, I’ve put together a short tutorial on How to Make Perfect Bacon – 3 Ways. Check it out! My preferred method is baking it in the oven.
Bacon Grease Tip
And don’t throw away that bacon grease! Bacon is expensive and the grease is great for making Scrambled Eggs, Grilled Cheese, Popcorn and even hash browns. It can keep up to 3 months if properly stored in the refrigerator.
Updated 12/18/19: Changed from Russet to Yukon Gold potatoes. Having made this recipe several times now, I prefer Yukon Gold for this mashed potatoes recipe. But you can use whatever you have on hand or whatever is more convenient for you.
