I’ve previously posted a recipe for a Banana Cake but I could not resist making this Double Chocolate Banana Cake. The combination of Chocolate and Banana flavors is a match made in heaven!
I had a bunch of ripe bananas that I needed to use. I could’ve frozen them as I’ve done before but I was in the mood to make something besides banana bread. Enter my Double Chocolate Banana Cake!
My wife loves Chocolate. I mean if you look up Chocoholic in the dictionary you will see her picture. Kidding of course. So making this double chocolate banana cake was a no brainer. I knew this banana cake would not go to waste.
Why is this recipe called double chocolate? Well for one, it’s a chocolate cake, thanks to the Cocoa Powder. And secondly, it has a generous amount of chocolate chips in it. Chocolate lovers rejoice!
How To Pick Bananas
The best bananas for banana bread are when they are overripe, not yellow but black. Or they’re at least streaked with black/brown. The darker the better.
If you can’t find overripe bananas, you can speed up the process by putting the bananas in a paper bag along with an apple and loosely folding down the top. The bananas should ripen in just a day or two using this method.
