A few months back I was going through a really old family recipe book and came across a couple of recipes for biscuits and found this recipe for Easy Cheddar Cheese Biscuits.

Now if you are like me, when you are in the mood for biscuits you probably just pick up a few cans of and pop them in the oven. I mean why not? It’s quick and easy and just about anybody can make biscuits from a can. But what fun is that?

Every now and then it’s fun to make something from scratch that you would normally buy pre-made. And that’s where this recipe comes in.

A handful of ingredients and no more than 30 minutes of your time and voila! Homemade Cheesy Biscuits! And don’t forget to try my Homemade Buttery Biscuits, my Copycat KFC Biscuits or my Sour Cream Biscuit recipe. So easy to make and delicious.

You will need the following ingredients to make this Cheddar Cheese Biscuits recipe. For ingredient amounts please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

All Purpose Flour – I mostly use King Arthur but use what you got (no affiliation)
Baking Powder – needed to help the biscuits rise
Salt – a common ingredient in many recipes
Cheddar Cheese – medium or sharp cheddar cheese. Your choice!
Vegetable Shortening – you can also substitute for an equal amount of butter if needed
Milk – I like to use 2%

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large bowl, sift flour, baking powder, and salt together. Add cheese and blend in shortening.
  3. Gradually add milk and mix well using your hands to form the dough.
  4. Divide the dough into 12 pieces. Mold into the desired shape and place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.

  5. Bake at 400°F for 5 minutes, then reduce heat to 300°F and continue baking for 10 minutes.

  • 2 Tbsp Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 Cup Milk
