These Bacon Cheddar Scones are super easy to make. Delicious scones packed full of flavor in less than 30 minutes.
I love making scones. They are so easy to make with simple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. And these Bacon Cheddar Scones are no different.
I love bacon. I mean who doesn’t? So making scones with bacon and cheddar was a no brainer for me. Everything tastes better with bacon doesn’t it?
If you don’t have any cheddar cheese on hand you can simply substitute for what you got in the fridge. I must remember to try this recipe with some pepper jack cheese to give these scones a little kick. Personally I love the Extra Sharp Cheddar for this recipe.
In an attempt to make this recipe as easy to make I recommend cutting in the butter using your food processor. This should make it easier to get the cold butter distributed as evenly and consistently as possible.
Buttermilk Substitution
If you don’t have Buttermilk on hand, you can use this trick as a substitute: Add one tablespoon of lemon juice to a measuring cup. Add milk and fill to the 1 cup measurement line. Stir the mixture together and let sit for 5 minutes. Since this recipe calls for 1/2 cup you will need to adjust accordingly.
Another option is to use a cultured buttermilk blend. All you need to do is add water. I was very skeptical at first but in a pinch it works great!
If you don’t have a food processor you can simply cut the cold butter in by hand using a couple of knives. Just make sure the butter is nice and cold!

And don’t throw away that bacon grease! Bacon is expensive and the grease is great for making Scrambled Eggs, Grilled Cheese, Popcorn and even hash browns. It can keep up to 3 months if properly stored in the refrigerator.
I was curious about the origins of scones as I knew they’ve been around for a long time so I looked it up and found this article on Wiki about Scones.

Scones are one of my favourite biscuits, and these scones are even better with bacon. Very tasty and scrumptious. My family just loved them. I would give them 10 stars if I could.
